India's 40-Kilometer Hyperloop Train Project Gets Approval

India is making significant progress with its 40-kilometer hyperloop project, as the Ministry of Railways has approved the clearance for the railway tracks required for the initiative. The hyperloop system, designed to carry pods through low-pressure tubes at speeds of over 1,000 km/h, aims to drastically reduce travel times between cities. For example, a trip between Delhi and Jaipur, typically taking several hours by car, will be completed in just about 30 minutes.

The project involves collaboration with IIT Madras and the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. IIT Madras is focused on the research and development of the technology, while ICF will be responsible for creating the electronic systems. Furthermore, the startup TuTr Hyperloop, incubated at IIT Madras, is set to begin constructing the world’s first commercial hyperloop system soon.

In terms of testing, a 422-meter-long track has already been built at IIT Madras, which is Asia's longest hyperloop test facility. Initial trials have shown that distances of about 350 km can be covered in under 30 minutes.

This project, once completed, is expected to revolutionize transportation in India, reduce congestion, and boost economic activity by improving connectivity between major cities.
