India gets Rs 11000 Crore Loan for sustainable projects
JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) has signed six new loan agreements with the Indian government, totaling ₹11,181 crore, aimed at supporting sustainable development across various sectors.
The largest portion of the loan, ₹4,649 crore, will fund the expansion of Delhi Metro's fourth phase. This project will add approximately 47 km of metro corridors, including extensions of Lines 1 and 5, and a new Line 11. This extension is expected to benefit around 400,000 daily commuters by 2031, while improving connectivity for over 17 million people in the National Capital Region.
Other agreements include ₹3,065 crore for a seawater desalination plant in Chennai, ₹2,106 crore for Tamil Nadu's investment promotion program, ₹669 crore for a biodiversity and conservation project in Punjab, ₹483 crore for enhancing forest management capacity, and ₹209 crore for Assam's aquaculture and livelihood improvement project.
JICA has been a key financial and technical partner in the development of Delhi Metro since its inception.
