According to a press release, the Volvo Group and NVIDIA will jointly focus on developing autonomous commercial vehicles and machines. The resulting decision-making system will be designed to control autonomous driving on highways & public roads, at utmost safety. The partnership is also looking forward to building a scalable Autonomous Driving System, which will be first utilized in commercial pilots and later, commercial Volvo Group offerings.
Jensen Huang, NVIDIA founder, and CEO, recently stated, “trucking is the world’s largest network: a network that via online shopping puts practically anywhere, anything in the world, quickly within our reach.”
The autonomous commercial vehicles will be developed on NVIDIA’s complete software stack for perception, sensor processing, path planning and map localization thereby leading to autonomous driving applications like construction, freight transport, mining, and more.
